Change the World Through History

1. Introduction

This paper tell about cleverness of Howard Zinn who has strong ideology. Howard Zinn is a truly historian that best known for his history of United State. He said that book could change mind of the reader even world. Therefore, He writes the book of history of Christopher Columbus in other perspective. But, the history that written by him is far away from history of Christopher Columbus that written by Samuel Elliot Morrison. Zinn likes competing reinforce of ideology with Morison. In his book, he described history of United State from the dark side history. He told that discovered American continent is not Christopher Columbus but Arawaks tribes. Because of they were leave at American continent more past than Christopher Columbus. As a brilliant historian, he able to influence many people of United State to believed him.

Zinn has a purpose when he wrote a History of United State. He wants to change the world through ideas that cannot be suspect. He hopes the students able to understand and can lose silent when study has ended. Zinn has given explained about heinous of Christopher Columbus. He said Columbus is a vicious people that killer, mutilators, etc. I really surprised and amaze when I read the book and article about it. I cannot imagine how the way of Zinn to observe the truth of history of Christopher Columbus. He is excellent historian that can change the world. He was described that literacy is number one for create an excellent history

2. Summary

There is interesting from what have Zinn said. He always emphasize the people to read and writing, because it can made people know much knowledge and could change the world. It shows that he has high literacy and ideology. The statement of Howard Zinn that said not Columbus who discovered American continent, made many people complain and gave a critique to him. It is because Columbus has be known by the people of United State as discovered of American continent.

Actually, history is never one hundred percent correctly. Many history that not correct presence. History of Christopher Columbus is one of some history that doubtful presence, because got some statement about it. Howard Zinn and Samuel Morrison have the different statement about it. Zinn said that Columbus is the vicious person that always torturing the poor. Meanwhile Erison said otherwise. So, which one that correct discovered of American continent.

3. Main Body

In history of United State, Christopher Columbus is not discovered American continent. Zinn said that Arawaks tribe that discovered of American continent, because of they were more past came to American continent. Additionally, we can read on the book that written by Dr Barry Fell an archeologist and linguists in University of Harvard on his created that the title is Saga American. He said when the first time Columbus came to the American continent. Christopher Columbus call American is “The New World” At that time is 21 October 1492 meanwhile there are some group that more past which came to there before Columbus. For example, Muslim from West African has built civilization over there. He also found some the fact that language of them many came from Arab language. It is one the fact that Columbus not the person who first discovered of American continent.

Zinn announced the overtly political agenda of A People’s History in an explanatory coda to the books : He wanted his writing of history and his teaching of history to be a part of history and not just a recorder teacher of history. The purpose of his book is for influence new generations of young students into becoming revolutionaries whose hatred for the United States would push them to work toward “a transformation of national priorities” and a comprehensive “change in the system” the prisoners of the system will continue to rebel. Zinn said in hopes that someday our grandchildren might possibly see a different and marvelous world. He has strong ideology to change the world and it can be proved in his book that saw Columbus in the different ways.

Zinn has successfully changed the history of the world with his genius. He was confidence wrote the book that oppose history of United States or Christopher Columbus without have many references. For me, it is a rare thing found during the journey of my life. Zinn has made all of the people incessant talk about the History of United State. People can think about the truth history of Christopher Columbus and they will aware about the truth that found continent of United State. Therefore, many teacher and student used his book in their study. No other radical historian has reached so many hearts and minds as Howard Zinn. It is rare that a historian of the Left has managed to retain as much credibility while refusing to let his academic mantle change his beautiful writing style from being anything but direct, forthright, and accessible. Whether his subject is war, race, politics, economic justice, or history itself, each of his works serves as a reminder that to embrace one's subjectivity can mean embracing one's humanity, that heart and mind can speak with one voice.

The statement that Columbus is the person not found American continent, many people of United State came to him to give a critique and protest. They have believed that Columbus discovered of American continent. Even they were celebrate Columbus Day and set it as National holiday. Then, why they do not believed to statement of Howard Zinn. Maybe, because of Howard Zinn do not gave a strong proof on his book. He does not give many references on his book so that many people doubt to his statement. If it was correct that discovered American continent is not Columbus, and then who is discovered of American continent? If Arawaks tribe, what is the evidence strong that can be believed by many people.

To emphasize that Columbus is a killer, vicious and so on. Then, how if that mention a discovered of American continent is the person built civilization over there and do not the person that the first time came to there. Maybe, Columbus is the person that discovered American continent because Columbus has built the big change for civilization in American continent. Nevertheless, if I saw from histories of Zinn and Morison that described about Columbus, I think both of them were not sure. For the reason, because history have not correct yet. Except they follow together with Columbus. So, the truth of history have not yet sure for believed.

4. Conclusion

In conclusion, history is an important to be known correctly. We need some fact to believe that history is correct. History of Columbus is the mirror that do not believed it toward history that not yet make us sure. In his book, Zinn have described about Columbus that killer, vicious and not the person that discovered of American continent. But, Zinn less gave strong evidence for his statement in his book so that partially of people difficult believe to him. However, Zinn is a truly historian who invited the people for changing the world civilization. Essentially, the history of the human race and political ideology will end with the wining of capitalism and liberal democracy.
