Seorang penulis tidak akan sembarangan dalam menciptakan sebuah tulisan. Penulis memiliki tugas tertentu dalam menciptakan tulisan ataupun karangan. Salah satu tugas utama penulis adalah untuk mengungkap pemahaman kemungkinan- kemungkinan baru atau ceruk-ceruk baru dalam tulisannya. Pemahaman kemungkinan atau ceruk baru yang dituliskan tentu tidaklah mudah untuk dituliskan. Ada tiga tahapan penting yang harus dilalui penulis untuk menjangkau bentuk-bentuk baru dari pemahaman. Tiga tahapan tersebut yaitu meniru (endale) – menemukan (discover) – menciptakan (create). Ketiga tahapan ini memiliki hubungan yang dekat. Hal ini karena meniru adalah bagian penting dari menemukan lalu menciptakan.

This paper discuss about a critical on Howard Zinn’s article that entitle “Speaking Truth to Power with Books” which tell book can be influence for our mindset and this book also tell about horistical truth C. Colombus, that previously considered as Hero in America State, but in this book Howard Zinn the writter in this books reveals a different statement for the Christoper Colombus.

Howard Zinn tells C. Colombus is not a Hero but C. Colombus as conquerors agent with lust for gold and other resources, and also have the desire to torture and killed people to achieve these goals and based on the facts that have been in foundC. Colombus is not person found the American continent but the Muslim’s explorer the first found the America continent.

INTRODUCTION

            In this paper I will discusse about the Howard Zinn’s article which title ‘Speaking Truth to Power with Books’(Anthropology off the Self : 2005). Howard Zinn’s article is about strength of  books that can make world has changed, exactly the book of  ‘A peple history of United States’. In his article he argues that a book can be changed our paradigm as the book is written by him abaout Christoper Columbus. His article also spoke about the truth history of United States relation with Christoper Columbus. His article tell about his Experiences when he red many books that could be maked him influenced. After summarising Zinn main points, I  shall be claiming that he was rihgt if a book can influence our paradigm about Cristoper Columbus who assumed as discoverer of Amerika but not all of  readers can be influenced by a book that is written by him about ‘A people history of United States’.

Jantungku berdegup kencang, yah begitulah perasaanku pada saat pertemuan ke tujuh kemarin.  Senin 17  maret 2014 kemarin adalah pertemuan ke tujuh saya dengan mata kuliah writing and composition 4, dan pada pertemuan itu pula saya merasa benar-benar kaget ketika tahu bahwa tugas yang saya dan teman-teman saya kerjakan itu salah.  Pada pertemuan ke tujuh kemarin saya dan teman-teman menemukan masalah karena tugas yang diberikan oleh Mr. Lala kemarin itu berbeda dengan apa yang telah kami kerjakan karena kami semua itu salah paham dengan perintah yang beliau berikan.  Tugas yang kami kerjakan itu berbentuk free writing tetapi ternyata itu seharusnya tugasnya itu berbentuk critical review, jadi kita semua mengerjakan tugas yang salah.

Courage of Howard Zinn Reveal the History

INTRODUCTION

This paper offers to a critical insight or perspective on Howard Zinn’s article entitled “Speaking Truth to Power with Books”. In the article "Speaking Truth to Power with Books", mentioned the crucial thing by the author, Howard Zinn, who stating that the book is able to change someone's life . Like the story when he met a student who reads the book The Color Purple by Alice Walker (one of his students) and she gives an opinion that the book changed her lifes after she read it. From here Zinn thinks that a book can change the consciousness of the reader, the book had the effect to be able to change the world sooner or later in an unexpected ways. One of  way to change the world through the book is to introduce an idea that had never previously before by the readers.

            Senin, 17 maret 2014. Kembali bertemu dengan mata kuliah Academic Writing yang ke tujuh kalinya. Pertumuan kali ini sangat membekas bagi saya pribadi karena teguran yang sangat mengejutkan saya. Seperti disambar petir di pagi hari yang ranum. Perasaan bercampur ketika kata- kata itu ditujukan pada saya “are you OK Fatimah?” saya terdiam dn bigngung lalu segera menjawab bahwa saya benar - benar baik seperti biasanya. Tapi kenapa teguran itu ditujukan kepada saya. pertanyaan terus menerus berputar dalam hati dan otak. Saya bisa mengikuti mata kuliah ini dalam hati saya, yakin.

            Semakin tergontai-gontai  yang kurasakan pada putaran ke tujuh ini, dengan semangat yang tersisa di bathin saya dan teman-teman saya terus berusaha lari untuk mencapai garis finish dengan senyuman.  Sang pelatih kita Mr. Lala terus menyemangati kita dengan api-apinya juga teguran-tegurannya yang sangat menampar hati dan fikiran ini.  Teguran tak sembarang teguran, karena banyak makna dibalik api-api yang menyala yang beliau kobarkan pada kami.
